A ticking Bomb

James Blake is a young British producer that has a style unlike anyone else. He has a strong musical background rooted in classical piano, and you can hear it in his music. He composes his music primarily from samples,  using shards of 90s R&B and also manipulating his own vocal and piano recordings for a totally different effect. He is stretching the boundaries of music at a fast past, and in the near future i am sure he will blow up. In the past year he has produced two very different styled EPs, one that is more jittery and club leaning, and the most recent is more calm and soul driven. His earlier EP of the year is composed of sporadic samples of beats and sounds and when i first listened to it, it reminded me of some of John Coltranes works. Like Clotrane, Blake can make you feel uncomfortable when listening, but you don't want to turn it off because you want to hear whats next. Blake then changes his sound to where you feel extremely at ease and peaceful in a style unlike i have ever heard. Blakes material seems to be very raw but is offset well with crystal clear sounds. (Below is a video of one of Blakes most recent tracks). To me Blake is a game changer in the way music feels and sounds in this time period. I think the limits for Blake are the sky and i think he has the talent to take it there. give him a listen and let me know your feed back... also on the "swisslist" there is another one of his tracks from his earlier EP of the year.
